W3C has released its first version of mobile web best practice standards including notes about navigation such as image maps, redirection, page sizes, scrolling, graphics, colour, and more.
Each time I use my Treo to surf the ‘net while away from a computer I am shocked by how few companies have designed mobile-friendly websites. For example, I deal with two banks – one has a mobile interface for online banking, and yet the other does not. It would be really handy to be able to check my accounts while out and about. Hopefully standards such as these will help nudge companies to get their mobile sites up.
