I recently ordered a few books relating to user experience design – namely:
- The Usability Kit (Dan Thies & Dave Davies, Sitepoint)
- Deliver First Class Websites: 101 Essential Checklists (Shirley Kaiser, Sitepoint)
- The Elements of User Experience: User-centered Design for the Web (Jesse James Garrett, Pearson Education)
- Communicating Design: Developing Web Site Documentation for Design And Planning (Dan Brown, Pearson Education)
- The Design Of Everyday Things (Don Norman, Basic Books)
Needless to say, I can hardly wait for the deliveries to arrive! In the meantime, I have the PDF of Deliver First Class Websites to pore over, several library books, and not enough time to read as much as I’d like. If I’m not posting here you can rest assured it’s because I’m off reading or chasing my kids!
Also, I went to a local web design meetup last night and am so glad I did, although only two other members made it. It was a “girl’s night” and I was so happy to find people I could just listen to as they discussed graphics design & web development.
I have recently been trying to make it out to local social events related to design, including a session put on by the local Society for Technical Communication (STC), and hopefully one coming up with the local User Experience Group.
It is wonderful to be able to go out – not just for the networking opportunity, but to finally meet people who speak my language.
